Tonantzin Novena (2017)

An open edition artist multiple depicting Tonantzin, the Mexica earth mother deity, printed on votive candles. Subverting the traditional prayer format, the candles instead trace the colonial relationship between the Virgin of Guadalupe and Tonantzin. Installed at Auxiliary Projects, visitors were invited to light candles as offerings, mirroring Catholic devotional practices.
